One of my favorite hike is up the Donner Peak hike on Donner Summit. It is also a Truckee favorite so my best advice is go early as parking at the trail head is limited. Also bring hiking poles since the trail is loose gravel and steep in parts. It offers breathtaking views of the Sierra and Donner Lake, iconic granite peaks, and vast alpine forests. During your hike, be sure to keep an eye out for native wildlife, and don't forget your camera, as there are plenty of photo ops along the way! Whether you're looking for a lasting memory or just a few hours of mountain air, the Donner Peak hike is sure to please. 3.7 miles out and back with about 1,000 ft elevation gain, I would rate this as a moderate level hike.
