The walk from Schaffhausen city to the Rhine Falls is a scenic and leisurely route that lets you experience the beauty of the Rhine River up close. Starting at Vorstadt, near the Schaffhausen Old Town, this 5-kilometer path takes you through charming streets, along the riverside, and into serene natural landscapes, making it an enjoyable experience for all fitness levels.

From Vorstadt, follow the marked trails leading to the Rhine. The path meanders along the riverbank, offering stunning views of the water and passing by picturesque homes and gardens. As you leave the urban area, the route becomes greener and more tranquil, with shaded sections through forests and plenty of spots to pause and take in the view.

Along the way, you’ll pass some interesting sights, including the Rhine promenade and the old steel railway bridge. As you approach the falls, the sound of rushing water grows louder, building anticipation for your arrival at Europe’s largest waterfall.

The walk takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on your pace and how often you stop to enjoy the views. Once at the falls, you can explore the free viewpoints on the northern bank or cross the bridge to Schloss Laufen for closer access.

Seraina’s Tip: Bring a picnic or snacks, as there are several lovely spots to relax by the water before reaching the falls. The trail is well-maintained, but comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
