Lago delle Baste is a tiny lake nestled on the Mondeval plateau in the Dolomites, a hidden gem worth exploring.
Despite its small size, this picturesque lake offers stunning views of Monte Pelmo and Lastoni di Formin, making it a perfect spot for a short hike. The trail to Lago delle Baste starts at Passo Giau and takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach, offering a peaceful escape surrounded by the beauty of the Italian Alps.
🗺️ The route:
Follow trail 436 from Passo Giau to Forcella Giau and Mondeval. Head towards Monte Cernera leading you to Forcella do Zonia. On this trail you will cross the slopes of Forcella Col Piombin. Just continue straight on trail 436, cutting across the upper Val Cernera Valley. (Please watch out for slippery stones).
When you reach Cees de Lou intersection, head right and ascend to Forcella Giau. You should then take a right and leave trail 436. The trail ahead is unmarked but well-trodden. You will pass boulders (Città di Sassi) continue on the grassy path to Lago delle Baste.
