Bacalhôa Buddha Eden is a 35-hectare sculpture garden located an hour outside of Lisbon, Portugal. There are replicas of sculptures from all around the world, including from Africa and East Asia. Of particular note is the Oriental Garden, which contains more than 6,000 tons of marble mostly in the form of standing and reclining Buddhas, alongside 700 replicas of the terracotta warriors unearthed in Xi’an, China, each individually hand-painted blue. The African Sculpture Garden focusses on the art of the Shona people, as well as lions, elephants and other monuments. Additionally, Pagoda Lake features 13 rising Buddhas from the water, making for quite the dramatic view! With Japanese maples and cherry trees dotting the path, this park provides a serene space with immense cultural significance.
