San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is a picturesque islet off the coast of Biscay in the Basque Country, Spain. Connected to the mainland by a man-made bridge, it boasts a 10th-century hermitage dedicated to John the Baptist. Visitors can climb 231 steps to reach the hermitage, ring the bell three times 🔔, and make a wish. The site has a rich history, including being attacked by pirates and serving as a filming location for Game of Thrones 🎥. It's a must-visit spot for those seeking stunning views 🌅 and a touch of medieval charm. 🏰
It takes around 2.5 hours round trip and we recommend visiting it early in the morning as it gets very packed during mid hours.
You can also take a boat to visit it.
Opening times: 09:30 to 19:30
You can also make a boat tour for which we have attached a link, we only did the hike, but the boat tour also looks amazing :)
