Perched in the heart of the wild Itria Valley, on the Murgia plateau, between the Adriatic and Ionian seas, Locorotondo is a village built in the year 1000. Its name, which derives from the Latin Locus Rotundus, literally means "round place" and recalls the circular shape, which is repeated on several rings, almost assuming the shape of a cake, of the town plan, characterized by very narrow concentric streets and white houses and terraced houses.
Locorotondo is located just 10 kilometers from Alberobello, but it would be a shame to neglect a visit to this village to go directly to the more famous village of trulli.
