Duwisib Castle is a stunning, pseudo-medieval fortress located in the hills of the semi-arid Southern Namib region of Namibia. Built by an ambitious Saxon artillery officer in 1909, the castle was meant to mimic existing German fortresses and palaces from the area. Despite the historicist style, the castle had all the modern amenities such as 22 rooms, oak cabinets, Turkish bamboo tables, and other luxuries. Visitors can now tour the castle and stay the night due to its extensive 2014 renovation. The castle also has its own kind of mythology, with rumors that descendants of the original horses owned by Hans Heinrich von Wolf still roam wild in the Namib Desert. Make sure you have cash on you as the card machine is not working most of the time!
