Hike
2-3h
Located in Kluane National Park and Reserve, St. Elias Lake is truly breathtaking as it is nestled between tall peaks that encourage you to explore. The hike is a great day excursion or an overnight backpacking trip. As the hike is approximately 2 hours return and moderate difficulty, it is perfect for beginner backpackers! There are a few tent pads available and a communal fire pit to enjoy.
Despite its relative ease and short distance, St. Elias Lake will not disappoint! The lush forest along the trail is home to lots of wildlife such as Lynx, Moose and Bears!
📍** Canoe Rental:** There are a few canoes available for rent at St. Elias Lake through the Dalton Trail Lodge. (https://daltontrail.com/contact). As there is no cell service in the area I suggest calling the lodge while you are in Haines Junction to pick up the key to the canoe, paddles and the life jackets.
Total Distance: 8 km Return Time: 2 hours Elevation Gain: 120 m Difficulty: Easy
Driections: Park at the pullout that says St. Elias Lake. The trail head is pretty clearly marked. You will hike through the forest on mellow rolling terrain for the majority of the hike until you reach a meadow grassy area, this means you're near the lake. When you get to the lake you will see the lake with a firepit with some benches. There is also a out house nearby.
