Porta Saragozza in Bologna is a cool medieval gate that was built in the 13-14th centuries. It wasn't really used until 1674 when they built the Portico di San Luca leading to the Basilica della Beata Vergine di San Luca. People started calling it the "Porta Sacra" or the "Porta dei pellegrini" because it was on the way to the Sanctuary of San Luca. In 1859, architect Giuseppe Mengoli gave it a castle-like makeover by connecting it with two crenellated arches to the two cylindrical towers. It's one of the nine original gates left from the 14th-century walls of Bologna.
