Elliston isn't just the "Root Cellar Capital of the World"; it's also one of the best spots in Newfoundland to watch puffins. Just a short walk from the heart of town, you'll find the Elliston puffin viewing site, which offers a front-row seat to the daily lives of these charming birds.

The viewing area is perfectly positioned for panoramic views of Bird Island, a small, uninhabited haven that becomes a bustling community of puffins and other seabirds during the breeding season. Here, you can watch these delightful birds as they nest, interact, and zip back and forth from the island, offering endless entertainment and photo opportunities.

On one of my visits, I was thrilled when four puffins flew right up to the viewing site, landing just a few feet away! It was an unforgettable moment, allowing me to capture incredible close-up shots of their striking beaks and quirky movements.
