The Capitoline Hill or Campidoglio in Rome, Italy is historically renowned as one of the Seven Hills of Rome, making it an integral part of the city’s history. Its history stretches back to stories about Tarpeia, a Roman maiden who was punished for betraying the Sabines and being flung from a cliff on the hill. It contains ruins from the 8th century BC Vulcanal, a temple dedicated to worshipping the Roman gods Jupiter, Juno, and Veiovis. Today, the piazza designed by Michelangelo is a popular tourist destination filled with museums and structures that honor ancient Italy’s history and mystique. Whether you are looking for Renaissance history or hoping to learn more about ancient Roman gods, a visit to Campidoglio will leave you in awe!
