Pontocho Alley was hands-down our favorite place to eat in all of Kyoto.

It’s this narrow, atmospheric lane packed with tiny hole-in-the-wall bars, restaurants, and izakayas, each one oozing charm.

The food here is next level, think traditional Kyoto cuisine, fresh sashimi, and even hot pots.

Some places overlook the Kamogawa River, so if you visit in the summer, try to snag one of those riverside seats!

Just a tip: it can get pretty busy, so either book ahead or arrive early.

Whether you're after a quick bite or a long dinner, Pontocho is the spot.

You’ll absolutely love it!
