The Christuskirche, or Christ Church, is an iconic landmark in Windhoek, Namibia. Built in 1910 as a result of the wars between Germans and local tribes, this historic church features a mixture of neo-Romanesque, Art Nouveau and Gothic Revival influences that come together to create a unique look. Aside from its unique architecture, the church also includes several exciting features such as Carrara marble imported from Italy, stained lead glass windows gifted by Emperor Wilhelm II, and three magnificent bronze bells cast in Germany bearing beautiful Latin inscriptions. Those wishing to learn more about the cultural significance of the Christuskirche will be delighted to discover the incredible history behind this remarkable windhoekan landmark!
