Wairere Falls is an absolute gem and the tallest waterfall in New Zealand’s North Island, standing at a massive 153 meters high! You’ve got two options to soak in the magic here. First, there’s the 1.6km trail to the lower viewing platform at the base of the falls, perfect for taking in those powerful views without too much effort. If you’re feeling adventurous, keep going for another 1km (making it 2.6km one way) to reach the very top of the falls.

Fair warning, it’s a decent workout with 410 meters of elevation, but the views from the top are so worth it. You’ll get an incredible perspective of the surrounding valley and the waterfall itself. Even if you’re not hiking, you can see the falls towering above from the car park and along the road, it’s that massive! With 60,000 visitors a year, this spot truly showcases how stunning New Zealand’s landscapes are.
