Sensoji Temple, also known as Asakusa Kannon Temple, is absolutely stunning!

Tucked away in Tokyo's Asakusa district, it was built way back in 645 to honor the goddess of mercy, Kannon.

It's Tokyo’s oldest temple and if you only visit one temple in Tokyo, it needs to be Sesoji.

Legend has it that two brothers discovered a statue of Kannon in the Sumida River and that inspired the temple’s creation.

Impressive from the minute you arrive, straight up you pass through the iconic Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate), wander down Nakamise shopping street, lined with traditional snacks and souvenirs, before reaching the main hall and five-storied pagoda.

If I'm completely honest, Nakamise shopping street felt like a bit of a tourist trap, so don't plan on spending too much time there.

Focus your energy more on the temple itself.

For a deeper dive, GetYourGuide offers an amazing walking tour. Check out the link we’ve shared for details!
