Stuðlagil Canyon is a stunning natural wonder located in the eastern region of Iceland, renowned for its unique basalt column formations and dramatic scenery.

Location: It is approximately 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) southwest of the town of Egilsstaðir.

Accessibility: It is possible to visit the canyon from the east and the west side. If you want to get closer you have to go to the east side. On the west side, there is only a viewing platform

Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit Stuðlagil Canyon is during the summer months (June to August)

Parking: There are 3 options:

  • West side: Stuðlagil Canyon Parking

  • East side: Stuðlagil (East side parking) - you won't need a 4X4 to get here

  • East side: Parkplatz Klaustrusel - Stuðlagil - This parking is on a private road but the owner allows people to drive as long as they respect the land. You will need a 4X4 car to drive on this road.

Distance from the last parking on the east side to the canyon: from Parkplatz Klaustrusel - Stuðlagil you will have to walk 1 mile and you will arrive

Facilities: There are limited facilities at Stuðlagil Canyon itself.
