Down the south coast of Crete, on the west, lies the monastery of Chrysoskalitissa.

It’s built on a hill with a breathtaking view to the sea and just a 10 minutes drive away from Elafonissi. “Chrysso” means golden and “skali” means step (as in the step of a staircase).

Legend has it that one of the 98 steps of the Monastery is made of pure gold and only those who truly believe can see it.
