Hotel Restaurant Belvedere is a historic hotel located in the Swiss Alps at an altitude of 2431 meters above sea level, near the Furkapass. It was built in 1882 to cater to the needs of travellers crossing the Furkapass, which was an important trade route between the cantons of Uri and Valais. The hotel was used as a location for the James Bond film "Goldfinger" and the outdoor terrace was the shooting location for the iconic scene where James Bond (played by Sean Connery) plays cards with the villain - Goldfinger. Due to climate change and the fact that the Rhône Glacier is melting, tourism to the area has diminished and in 2016 the hotel closed its doors. It is still an iconic place to visit in Switzerland. While being in the neighbourhood, you can also visit an Ice Cave - the entrance is approx. 180 metres from the Furkapass road and Hotel-Restaurant Belvédère. Opening period: June - October - please check if the ice cave is still available before the trip.
