Wat Phra Kaew, otherwise known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, is a grand, third-class Royal Temple located in Chiang Rai, Thailand. It seeks fame for its holy status, being the original lodging of the authoritative Emerald Buddha, a figure that was covered in stucco until lightning struck and unveiled its jade green splendour. Inside the grounds of this temple lies a museum that exhibits several artworks from various members of the parish who cast their donations alongside existing architectural styles such as ‘incubating hen’. There’s also the new ‘Phra Yok Chiang Rai’ image, modelled after the original Emerald Buddha, crafted out of Canadian jade to commemorate Princess Mother’s 90th birthday. An exciting journey into both religious and secular history awaits at Wat Phra Kaew!
