Kiyomizu-dera is a Buddhist temple located in eastern Kyoto, Japan. The majestic temple complex includes several other shrines such as Jishu Shrine, which is dedicated to Ōkuninushi, a god of love and “good matches”. Many tourists come here to take the “plunge”; an Edo-period tradition believing if one survives a 13-meter (43-foot) jump off the stage, their wish will be granted. The waterfalls onsite are believed to possess wish-granting powers, and during festivals (especially at New Year’s and Obon in the summer), these exciting areas turns into a bustling bazaar with delicious treats and souvenirs. Best time to shoot is late afternoon during golden hour.
