Kinkaku-ji, commonly referred to as the Golden Pavilion, is a Zen Buddhist temple located in Kyoto Japan. It is a highly popular tourist destination, ranked as one of the most holy places on Earth and containing numerous relics from it's founder Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. The pavilion itself is a three storey building covered with authentic gold leaf, luckily restored after its famous burning in 1950. It successfully combines three distinct architectural styles; shinden, samurai and zen, each boasting a unique atmosphere and history. Additionally, the building and grounds are also set up to reflect nature, death and religion, offering a truly unique experience for visitors. Kinkaku-ji is an incredible and fascinating monument to behold and should be visited by anyone lucky enough to tour this historic area of Japan.
