The Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park is one of Japan's most iconic attractions. Located in Nagano Prefecture, visitors can observe wild Japanese macaques, better known as snow monkeys, soaking and playing in the hot springs of this quiet ravine. Established in 1964, the park provides an up-close experience to these illusive creatures and offers a tranquil walk through the forest on the way in. During winter months, the monkeys come down from the mountains for free meals and to warm themselves in the hot water, providing a unique and special opportunity for visitors to observe and learn more about primate behavior. The experience is not to be missed and offers a glimpse into both nature and culture that will stay with you long after your visit is over.
