In contrast to the ruins of Sukhothai Historical Park 1 hour away, Wat Phiphat Mongkhon is a modern and spectacular temple. His construction started in 1983 when they did an enigmatic discovery: a small gold Buddha weighing nine kilos. A Buddha not covered in gold, but made of gold! The monk who found it then successfully mobilizes resources. As a result, in a few decades, Wat Phiphat Mongkhon has become an essential place of worship in the region. The complex is now huge, you probably will come by car, and you will pass a long road ornated with decorations and pillars all the way, and pretty much everywhere you look, you will see a temple with a blue roof, a golden pagoda, some chedis, gates, pavilions, stupas, sculptures, statues, etc. This place is quite extraordinary and beautiful. And in each of these buildings, you can find exceptional buddha images. It was a big surprise for me as I never heard of this place before, but it was a really good surprise and there was almost no tourist there.
