So Heng Tai Mansion is a historic Chinese courtyard house located in Bangkok's Talat Noi neighborhood. Built in the 19th century by Phra Aphaiwanit, a Chinese bird's nest tax farmer, the mansion has been continuously inhabited by his descendants, including the Poshyachinda family. It is one of the last traditional Chinese houses in Bangkok and claims to be the city's oldest private residence. Despite offers to buy the mansion for billions of baht, the family has chosen to keep it in their possession. Today, the mansion also operates as a diving school, with a pool built in the courtyard in 2004. The lack of government support has left maintenance largely to the family's expense, but efforts have been made to restore and preserve this cultural treasure.
