Are you into skiing or snowboarding? Lapland has some great ski areas! Ylläs is the largest ski resort in Finland, the slopes wind down to two genuine Lappish villages, both Ylläs and Äkäslompolo, that are connected by a ski bus during the season.

I am not a skier nor a snowboarder, but that's one of the main reasons why I love spending my winter holidays in Finland. This country offers winter fun for EVERYONE. While your friend or partner is hitting the slopes, you can go fatbiking, cross-country skiing (which is super easy!), dive into a Finnish sauna or opt for a husky or reindeer safari!

However, if you are planning on staying in either Äkäslompolo or Ylläs but don't want to go skiing or snowboarding, I still recommend taking the Gondola up to the top. On a sunny day the view is AMAZING and there's a nice little restaurant at the top. Alternatively you can also make your way down with a snowmobile, which is maybe even more thrilling then going down the traditional way.

The Gondala goes up in just seven minutes and is open all year-round. It's wheelchair accessible and can even accommodate dogs in some cabins. In the summer, it's a great way to access the bike park trails and go for lunch. So, whether you're hitting the slopes or soaking in the scenery, the gondola is your ticket to the top at Ylläs!
