The Old Exeter Inn in Ashburton, is the 5th oldest pub in Britain and feels like stepping back in time. This place is steeped in history and has been trading continuously since 1130! Patrons of the pub include Sir Francis Drake and the explorer Sir Walter Raleigh, who was actually arrested in this very pub on a charge of treason against the King.
These days, the pub offers numerous cosy wood panelled and candle lit rooms to enjoy a drink or some of their excellent comfort food. They're well known for the serving delicious pies, and in the summer, you can enjoy the walled apothecary garden with pizzeria!
A must visit if you want to get cosy after a walk on the moors or simply if you need a refreshment after visiting all the gorgeous shops in town.
