The Beluga whale sanctuary is a non profitable organization to rescue Belunga whales and Puffins. From April to October it is possible to visit the visitor centre and take a look at the two Beluga whales and the Puffins living at the sanctuary.

The bay area of the Sea Life Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary called Klettsvík offers 32 000 m2 (=344 445 ft2) which is enough space for up to 10 Beluga whales. Whale welfare is the highest goal of the centre and the employees do their best to entertain and care for the whales.

Right now two Beluga whales and nine Puffins are permanent residents of the rescue center. The main goal is to cure the animals and to be able to release them to the nature afterwards. Sometimes it is not possible to release them as it might be that the injury is not completely curable or they have been too long with humans.

There are three different options for visitors to take a look at the sanctuary.

  1. 2,375 ISK: Visitor Centre Admission

  2. 4,200 ISK: Guided Visitor Centre Tour

  3. 10, 900 ISK: Boat Trip & Visitor Centre
