The GoldenPass Express is one of Switzerland’s most scenic train journeys, connecting Montreux and Interlaken with breathtaking landscapes of lakes, mountains and vineyards. Whether you start in the elegant Swiss Riviera or the heart of the Bernese Oberland, this panoramic route promises stunning views and a seamless travel experience.
The Journey
Departing from Montreux, the train winds through the Lavaux vineyards, a UNESCO World Heritage site, before ascending into the Pays-d’Enhaut region. Passing through charming mountain villages like Château-d’Oex and Gstaad, you’ll see rolling green meadows and traditional Swiss chalets before reaching Zweisimmen, where the train continues its journey without a transfer, thanks to an innovative gauge-changing system.
Travelling from Interlaken, the route offers spectacular views of Lake Thun, with the towering peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau in the background. As the train climbs towards Zweisimmen, the landscape transitions from deep-blue lakes to alpine pastures. From there, you descend into the French-speaking part of Switzerland, where the scenery shifts to gentle hills and vineyard-covered slopes before arriving in Montreux, with its lakeside promenade and Mediterranean-like atmosphere.
