Located in the charming village of Gruyères, La Maison du Gruyère invites you to discover the secrets behind one of Switzerland’s most iconic cheeses. This interactive cheese factory combines tradition and technology to showcase the centuries-old craft of making Gruyère AOP.
The self-guided tour takes you through the cheese-making process, from the lush pastures where the cows graze to the meticulous steps involved in producing this famous hard cheese. You’ll see the cheese-makers at work in the factory, crafting wheels of Gruyère in real-time, with detailed explanations provided through an audio guide available in multiple languages.
One of the highlights is the tasting session at the end of the tour. You’ll sample Gruyère cheese at different stages of aging, from mild to fully matured, experiencing how the flavors deepen and change over time.
The on-site restaurant offers a menu packed with traditional Swiss dishes, including fondue and raclette made with—you guessed it—Gruyère cheese. A shop nearby lets you take home your favorite cheese and other local specialties.
Seraina’s Tip: Personalise your visit by crafting your own Gruyère label at the interactive stations during the tour. It’s a fun touch and a great keepsake to remember your visit to this cheese haven.
