Towering above the Mourne Mountains in County Down, Slieve Binnian is one of the most spectacular hikes in Northern Ireland. Known for its dramatic granite tors, breathtaking views, slightly challenging yet rewarding trail, Slieve Binnian is a must-visit. At 747 metres, it’s the third-highest peak in the Mourne range and offers panoramic vistas of the surrounding countryside, sea, and nearby peaks.The trail offers a mix of steep ascents, gentle plateaus, and incredible photo opportunities.

Carrick Little Track
The hike begins with a steady ascent along a gravel path, passing through the Mourne Wall, a historic dry-stone wall built in the early 20th century.
The Summit Ridge
The ridge is the crown jewel of the hike, featuring granite tors that rise dramatically from the landscape. Take your time exploring the tors and soaking in the 360-degree views of the Silent Valley Reservoir, Carlingford Lough, and the Irish Sea.
The Silent Valley
Descending from the summit, you'll be treated to views of the Silent Valley and its tranquil reservoir. This section of the trail is particularly scenic during sunrise or sunset.
Return Path
The loop trail brings you back to Carrick Little Car Park, following a gentler descent that passes through grassy paths and more sections of the mourne wall.

Check the Weather: Before starting your hike, check the forecast to ensure safe conditions.
Start Early: To avoid crowds and enjoy the best lighting for photos, begin your hike early in the morning.
I recommend to take this hike during the spring or autumn months to avoid large crowds . Please make sure you are equipped with walking boots and suitable weather gear. Despite the rocky terrain, Slieve Binnian is one of the most rewarding hikes in Northern Ireland and should not be missed.
