Fair Head is one of my favourite breathtaking viewpoints in Northern Ireland. Located on the Causeway Coast, the iconic cliffs of Fair Head are composed of a rock called dolerite. This igneous rock was born out of volcanic activity some 60 million years ago.

Fair Head is a 5 kilometre long headland home to one of the best traditional climbing and bouldering locations in the British Isles. Its sheer vertical cliff face is made of distinctive organ pipe-like columns of dolerite rock and is over 100 meters tall in places. The cliffs are home to a wide range of climbing routes, from low grades to very difficult E-grades. The area includes Iron Age crannógs, trout-stocked lakes and is also known for its stunning natural surroundings.

Things to know:

🥾All trails begin at the farm car park (£3 honesty box on site - please donate and support the local business.)

🎬 Fair Head was the filming location for the castle of Dragonstone in Season 7 of Game of Thrones.

⚠️Please be aware that sections of these walks are close to cliff edges and care must be taken . Please do not visit during windy conditions and poor visibility. Weather conditions along the coast can change very quickly - so be prepared.

⚠️ For skilled adventurers, Fair Head offers you an opportunity to experience the thrill of climbing on some of the highest quality rocks in Northwest Europe.

💚 As with any natural area please follow the principles of Leave No Trace, respecting the environment and wildlife.
