The Kavadarci Memorial Ossuary in Macedonia is a sprawling spomenik complex located on top of a hill overlooking the city and paying tribute to freedom fighters and victims who suffered under fascist occupation. The memorial complex was constructed in 1976 after a design competition, made up of a 'house' element composed of a three-level concrete structure with two wrought iron gates and a spiral staircase and a nearby 'courtyard' element made up of recessed amphitheatre steps and concrete pylon elements. An additional small memorial dedicated to the Kavadarci native hero Kiro Krstev and Veles native Dimče Mirčev is also located nearby. Name plaques on the interior walls of the spomenik and an ossuary containing the remains of 328 Partisan soldiers make the complex particularly special, although it has fallen into neglect and disrepair in recent years. Still, visitors are encouraged to take in the unique symbolism of the architecture, as well as the engineer's bold attempt at integrating traditional Macedonian imagery into the monument.
