Given the shorter length of this hike, I recommend starting early to catch the sunrise. If you're staying at Murodo, set out around 3 a.m. for a breathtaking experience. This is one of the most beginner-friendly 3,000-meter peaks, and the summit shrine is beautifully crafted, adding a spiritual touch (entry costs ¥700). A heads-up—water here costs ¥700 a bottle, so bring your own! There are benches and tables at the summit, perfect for a snack or lunch while taking in the views.

Trailhead: Murodo Station

Hike Details:

  • Distance: 5 km (round trip)

  • Duration: 3 to 4 hours (round trip)

  • Elevation Gain: Around 600 meters

  • Difficulty: Moderate – Steady climbs with some rocky sections and short scrambling near the summit.

General Information & Summary:

Starting at the scenic Murodo Plateau, this hike ascends through alpine meadows and rocky paths toward the summit of Oyama, part of Mount Tate’s peaks. The trail offers breathtaking views of the Japanese Alps, and Oyama Shrine awaits at the top, adding a spiritual element to the climb.

Tips for a Great Hike:

  • Best Season: July to October for clear conditions.

If you are more advanced, consider the Circult Trail for a full day challenge.
