In August 2024, I had the chance to visit Lake Kanayama and Minami Furano, and it was an unforgettable experience. The area was less crowded than central Furano, making it a perfect escape to immerse myself in Hokkaido's natural beauty. The lavender fields were in full bloom, painting the landscape with vibrant purples, while the sunflower fields added a brilliant splash of yellow—truly a sight to behold.
At Lake Kanayama, I flew my drone over the lavender and sunflower fields. The views were absolutely breathtaking, especially knowing the area had been a filming location for the movie "Ito."
Exploring Minami Furano was another highlight. The small town, though less known, offers a charming glimpse into rural Hokkaido. I visited the famous Ikutora Station, the filming site for the movie "Poppoya," which brought a wave of nostalgia as I walked through the well-preserved set. The Roadside Station Minami Furano was also a treat, with plenty of local souvenirs and a chance to see the rare "phantom fish," Itou.
By the way, in the winter, this place turns into an ice lake perfect for ice fishing.
