The National Garden in Athens has been around since the reign of the first Queen of Modern Greece, Amalia. This 15.5 hectare public park is full of plants and animals imported by the German agronomist, Fulcher Schmidt.
The garden also features ancient ruins and monuments to commemorate important figures in Greek history. On the southeast side are busts of Ioannis Kapodistrias and Jean Gabriel Eynard. On the south side are busts of celebrated poets Dionysios Solomos and Aristotelis Valaoritis.
The National Garden is a popular spot year-round for locals and tourists alike. Visitors enjoy taking a stroll around the beautiful gardens, admiring the interesting monuments, and spotting the variety of local wildlife.
