The Corinth Canal is a marvel of engineering and a popular attraction for tourists in Greece. This artificial canal cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth, making it possible to go from the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea to the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea.
The canal has been thought of since classical times, but the modern project wasn't completed until 1893. The 6.4 kilometre (4 miles) canal is only 24.6 metres (80.7 feet) wide at sea level, so boats must be smaller than this to pass through.
It's an exciting experience for tourists who can watch the landscape move from one side of the line to the other! Recent landslides have caused closure at the beginning of 2021, but it is expected to reopen soon.
