The Museo-Laboratorio della Civiltà Contadina (Museum-Workshop of the Peasant Culture) is an ethno-anthropological museum located in the Sassi district of Matera, Italy. Established in 1998, this museum seeks to recreate the atmospheres typical of an agricultural and pastoral environment. With 500m2 featuring a collection of tools and objects related to everyday life, the museum takes visitors through a journey of the past. The museum offers various workshops which promote the renewal of ancient trades such as pottery, basketry, and carpentry. It also hosts cultural activities, exhibitions, and other events. A great way to learn about the culture, customs and history of Southern Italy, it's sure to be an experience that guests won't forget!
After the visit you enter the Sassi area from one (in my opinion) of the most fascinating gates of the city located near the Palombaro ticket office and start walking around the city getting lost in every single detail. You will soon arrive in via Fiorentini, where the spaces become more open and the locals enliven the stones. Right here is the Museo Laboratorio della Civiltà Contadina, where you can admire more than 50 rooms with reproductions of workshops with the objects used by the craftsmen who lived in Matera (blacksmiths, shoemakers, potters, etc.).
