Amalfi Cathedral, also known as Duomo di Amalfi or Cattedrale di Sant'Andrea, is a stunning Romanesque-Baroque-Rococo style building located in the town of Amalfi in southern Italy. The 9th century original was built upon the ruins of an old temple, and now its beautiful bell tower stands in majestic front of the cathedral's main doors. Inside, one finds many exquisite historical artwork, such as wooden 13th century Crucifix's hanging in the liturgical area, and a painting by Andrea dell’Asta of the martyrdom of Saint Andres. The richly decorated facade consists of striped marble and stone, with a tall pediment decorated with mosaics, and a deep porch with windows of delicate Arab-Moorish tracery similar to the original. With its long history, powerful architecture, and impressive relics, a visit to Amalfi Cathedral is sure to be an unforgettable experience.
Entrance is free.
