Lower Dewey lake is just a short hike from downtown Skagway but will transport you to a serene lake in the Tongass National Forest. You can do a loop around the lake, have a picnic and even go for dip off of the dock. There are lots of good spots to camp here if you'd like. You will often run into people from the cruise ships here but they tend to come and go quickly in the middle of the day.

**Total Distance: **7 km Return Time: 1.5 hours Elevation Gain: 166 m Difficulty: Easy Region: Skagway

Directions: The hikes starts from downtown Skagway on 2nd Ave and Spring Street, there will be a parking lot right near the train tracks. Follow the trail along the train tracks and cross over the tracks. Follow the sign directing you to the Dewey Lakes. From here you can follow the "Lower Dewey Lake" markers. You will past some pipes and a bridge at the very start of the trail which means you are going the right way. It quickly gains elevations but there are switch backs to make them very manageable. Conditions can sometimes be muddy. Once you reach Lower Dewey Lake you will notice outhouses, a dock and picnic table areas around the lake which makes for a great spot to hydrate and take a break. Continue to do a loop around the lake if you'd like.

From here you can hike to Upper Dewey Lake and Sturgill's Landing which are both a bit more difficult and require more time. I have entries from both these hikes if you'd like to add it on.
