Hike
Hike
4-6h
This hike offers stunning views of the surrounding mountain of Little Atlin Lake, Yukon and Atlin, BC. You can do this hike in both winter and summer. This hike isn't too challenging but it's pretty continuously gaining with switch backs but you quickly reach the alpine. In the summer the rocks can be slippery in areas so hiking poles can be really helpful.
Total Distance: 6 km Return Time: 3.5 hours Elevation Gain: 700 m Difficulty: Moderate
Don't do this hike between April 1 - June 16 because there are Mountain Goats are in the area with their newborn kids and need lots of space.
Directions: Get here via the Atlin Road from Little Atlin Lake. From Whitehorse head south on the Alaska Highway towards Jake's Corner. Turn right onto the Tagish Road. About 2km down the road you can turn left to Atlin, BC on the Atlin Road, turn here. Continue down the road for 5.6km, the trail head is on the left, you will see a pullout/service road, there's gates at the bottom. (This is also across the road from Little Atlin Lodge's driveway if you're staying there). Park before the get and then head up the road to the gravel pit. You will see a big pile and a generator shed, go around the pile to the forest and you will see a path in the tree and a orange cable. Don't proceed up the road past the pile it will lead you no where. There are no trail markers.
Once you find the orange cable you will basically be following that the rest of the way up. There's braided paths in areas. From here you will just follow the trail towards the radar tower. You can continue past to the true summit. You will notice you get views pretty quickly so you can really just go as high as you want. Be careful on the way down as steeper section can be slippery.
