My personal connection to Ferryland runs deep. My dad was an archaeologist who worked at the Colony of Avalon when I was a kid. I spent many days there, initially hoping to discover a land of fairies (a mix-up with the name 'Ferryland' as a child). While I didn’t find any fairies, the historical magic of the place has always stayed with me, and it's even more appreciable now as an adult.

A must-do in Ferryland is booking a picnic at the 1870-built Ferryland lighthouse. The gourmet picnic set against the picturesque backdrop of the lighthouse and ocean views is nothing short of enchanting. It's also a prime spot for whale watching during the summer
months.

Remember to book your picnic well in advance through their website or via email, as spots fill up quickly during peak tourist season. However, if you find yourself in the area without a booking, give them a call—sometimes you can luck out with a last-minute cancellation.
