Michinoku stable is a renowned sumo wrestling stable established in 1974 by former maegashira Hoshikabuto. It joined the Tokitsukaze ichimon or group of stables and is currently headed by former ōzeki Kirishima. The stable is well-known for its makuuchi division wrestlers including Kakuryū (the 71st yokozuna), Ryūhō, Hoshitango, and recently, Kiribayama, who was promoted to ōzeki in May 2023. The fighters in Michinoku stable have unique ring names taken from characters such as 星 (read: hoshi) from two of their former owners or 霧 (read: kiri) after the current owner Kirishima. With a multitude of members praised both inside and outside of the wrestling industry, Michinoku stable is a great place for sumo wrestlers to make their dreams come true!
