The Chapel Bridge, or Kapellbrücke in Lucerne, Switzerland is a sight to behold! Spanning 204.7 meters (672 feet) across the Reuss river, this covered wooden footbridge is the oldest surviving truss bridge and one of Europe's most iconic landmarks. Once part of Lucerne's fortifications, the bridge houses 47 stunning 17th century interior paintings which depict events from the city's history. Though the bridge was reconstructed after a devastating 1993 fire destroyed two thirds of the interior paintings, it stands strong as a symbol of Lucerne and remains an essential attraction for tourists.
