Would you walk through freezing, murky thigh-high water to get to this slot canyon?
💡 The trail to the slot canyon is easy; the slot canyon is challenging. It is extremely narrow and stemming is required. Stemming is using your body, feet, hands to move forward with oppositional force on the canyon walls above the canyon floors.
📝 There is usually standing water in the slot canyon and it can be extremely cold. This can be ankle to chest deep, depending on recent rainfall. Expect to get wet, but there is a small chance it could be dry! Be sure to check with the BLM visitor center in Escalante to find water status. I have hiked this slot 5 separate times and 3 of the 5 times I had to wade through water up to my hips.
📸 Photography Tip — the photographic section of this slot is rather short. You’ll be tempted to shoot when you first get into the canyon, but walk to the back and turn around, shooting towards where you entered.
👧🏼 Taking kids? Have fun looking for Moqui Balls! Leave them where you find them though, as it’s illegal to remove them.
