Kurumiboru is one of those places that makes Japan feel like Japan. While you're driving down this mountain road, out of nowhere, this incredible creation just seems to appear. My jaw dropped the first time I drove by while I was on my way to hiking in Izuna and stumbled on this place.

Owned by a lovely couple who have been DIY-ing the place for 23 years, it's like stepping into a fairytale world. My recommendation is very much as a photo spot as you can see some pretty awesome handmade buildings. However, there is also a cafe that opens with limited hours on the weekends from 11am and sells out fast! Because this is a beautiful and unique place, it is popular with locals although this is very much off the tourist radar...for now.

Matt's tip: If you're lucky enough to time visiting the bakery, make sure to try the backed cheesecake!
