Fjaðrárgljúfur is a magnificent canyon located in South Iceland, just south of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. With its sheer walls and roaring waterfalls, this is an ideal destination for photographers and hikers alike. It was created by the remnant of a glacial lake which carved into the soft volcanic rock. Perfectly clear skies offer stunning panoramic views of the Highlands and surrounding glaciers. To get a deep impression of Fjaðrárgljúfur, hikers can either walk along the ridge of the valley or descend down into it to view the raging waters below. Make sure to bring waterproof shoes if taking this route! Along with the breathtaking scenery, there is plenty to explore around Fjaðrárgljúfur such as visiting other local attractions, nearby settlements, or participating in a variety of exciting tours. A trip to Fjaðrárgljúfur offers a unforgettable experience that should not be missed.
