It’s estimated that close to 1 million puffins nest in the Westman Islands during summer! This is why it is one of the best places to see them is at the observation house on Heimaey island in the Westman Islands.

The 45-minute ferry ride from mainland island is worth it on so many levels but one of the best reasons, is that puffins are happily nesting on this island all throughout the summer. An added bonus is that you pay to put your car on the ferry, so it’s easy for you to get to all the interesting attractions on the island. The island's volcanic landscape provides a unique and dramatic setting for puffin watching.

Access to the puffin observation house is free and is suitable for all ages.
