Sænautasel is a historical turf home located on the Jökulsheiði heath in Iceland, which has been turned into a museum. Some Icelanders used to live here year round. It was used as inspiration for Halldór Laxness’ famous novel Independent People and even includes a cafe located in the old sheep cote open from mid-June to mid-September. Visitors can enjoy traditional pancakes and coffee by candlelight or discover the history of the farm through its displays. Moreover, visitors have the opportunity to explore the surrounding area and take guided tours. Sænautasel offers visitors an exciting and unique look at Icelandic history!
