Hot Spring

Every time I come here; I feel like a giddy little kid because it’s fun to see Iceland’s most famous geyser shoot boiling hot water into the air. This is a relatively quick stop because the geyser erupts every 8-10 minutes. It’s helpful to know that even though the stop is called Geysir, you are seeing Strokkur shoot hot water in the air at a height of 15–20 meters (49–66 ft), although it can sometimes erupt up to 40 meters (130 ft) high.
Gesyir is nearby but is no longer active. It’s said that during big earthquakes that it has shot up water in the past. I highly recommend checking the wind direction when you get there to steer clear of warm water blowing in your direction unless you really want that. The restaurant across the street is great for grabbing some food and/or using the restroom.
