While I don't consider this to be an absolute must-see place in Iceland, it can be a cool stop if you have the time, especially if you are looking for an artistic photo or video.

The plane was left after it crashed in 1973. It was a United States Navy DC plane that ran out of fuel and crashed on the black beach at Sólheimasandur in Iceland's South Coast. Thankfully, there were no fatalities.

There are two ways to possibly view this deserted plane wreck. The first is by walking 45-minutes each way (1.5 hours round-trip), and it is totally free to park and walk there.

The second option is to take the Plane Wreck Shuttle, which costs about $20.
